February Round-Up

“Discover my current favourites – from delicious eats and places visited; to must-see entertainment – in my monthly roundup.”

It has been a minute since my last post, and there has been one notable change on the old Blog since then, and that is; changing my Blog name from ‘My Bitchy Resting Face’ to ‘A Twist of Create’.

Without going into too much detail about the whys and boring your ears off, I had been feeling for some time that I had outgrown the name; it has been with me from the beginning of my blog journey; My Bitchy Resting Face was used across all my socials it had become a part of my identity, though, nine years on I’m at a different place in life and felt it was a good time for a refresh.

On the theme of a refresh, at the beginning of each month, I used to write a post titled “My Top 6 Instagram Posts for the Month”; instead, to switch things up a little bit, I wanted to share snippets of what I’ve been up to in the month, any memorable podcast episodes I’ve listened to, or Netflix shows I’ve watched, plus highlights from my socials and blog, I also want to get back to spotlighting other bloggers, writers and all-round content creators whose work I enjoy. I will try to keep it short and snappy because I know I can ramble on for days at the best of times, and if there is anything else you think I should cover or not, as always, feel free to share.

Arts & Culture

We went to the Van Gogh Alive, which was held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil and sadly ended on the 19th of March. I wrote a blog post on my experience there and looking forward to more art exhibitions coming to Malaysia.

Food & Cafés

These are not newly discovered cafes or a restaurant you know when: you haven’t been somewhere for a while and then happen to be in the vicinity; all three places have been featured on my Instagram several times and ones I take friends to.

VCR coffee shop – when I’m in the Bangsar area running errands, this is a place I usually come to on my own, sit outside and enjoy my coffee.

Elephant Republic – The iced coconut latte on an extremely humid day in the city!

The Hungry Tapir – I am not vegan, though this Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant serves up some quality and a unique take on familiar local dishes, like mama’s satay to blushing pumpkin tortillas, all enjoyed in this rustic tropical setting.

What I Watched

All Netflix!

Pamela Anderson a Love Story – As a kid of the 90s, Pamela Anderson was the ultimate blonde bombshell of our generation, so I was intrigued to watch her docu and now have a more rounded view of her as a person, her life and going over parts of what I remember reading and seeing of her in the magazines or on tv.

‘In her own words, through personal videos and diaries, Pamela Anderson shares the story of her rise to fame, rocky romances and infamous sex tape scandal.’

You People – With Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy, who I haven’t seen in a while. A romcom movie, easy watch.

‘Families and cultures clash when two LA millennials from different backgrounds fall in love and face the ultimate relationship test: meeting the parents.’

Your Places or Mine – Another romcom; I must have been kidnapped by aliens this month cause I’m usually watching thrillers and murder mystery genres. Anyway, an easy film with Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, another actor I haven’t seen for a while.

‘When best friends and total opposites Debbie and Peter swap homes for a week, they get a peek into each other’s lives that could open the door to love.’

Podcast

“We’re talking bad behaviour, dodgy dates and controversial opinions you just can’t hold in any longer.” – Closet Confessions

I have my usual go-to podcast, but one to underline for this month has to be Closet Confessions by Candice Brathwaite & Coco Sarel.

I have been following Candice for some time now over on IG and Sarel, I discovered recently on TikTok; if you follow either of these two ladies, then you already know what to expect; amongst all the LOLs, there are nitty-gritty convos covered, and life gems dropped in a carefree and fun way.

Music

Mmm, most of my music is on repeat at the moment. I downloaded SZA’s new album SOS, which I am still to listen to in full: my fave track so far is ‘Good Days’.

One of my friends (in the photo above), an independent artist based between London, UK and South Africa, released a new track, Dreams Deferred, which makes me super proud and boosted to see her pursue her creative visions.

“Dreams Deferred’ is about the magic in following your dreams no matter the weather or what you are faced with. The unwavering belief in your dreams and the dreams of the one you love.. keeping that light alive and knowing that it’s going to see you through..” – Mikaela Fay

Poems & Quotes

My friend shared with me this beautiful poem by Kahlil Gibran which has stuck with me.

Spotlight

When it came to fashion styling, one thing; I switched up on my socials was to follow women who had a similar body type to me and shared more relatable content.

As I came into my 40s, my body shape changed a lot, I am the biggest I have ever been, and I noticed many of the women I followed on my socials had entirely different build to me; the looks were still aspirational, but the reality is, most of it I wouldn’t be able to wear.

One lady I appreciate seeing fashion content from and find myself tapping all the links to see where she got her dress from is Nicole Ocran; not only a content creator, she is also an author and co-hosts a podcast which I regularly listen to Mixed Up Podcast.

And that is my February roundup, slightly scattered and delayed. Hopefully, there is helpful content in there, and again, all feedback on how to better share this monthly roundup is appreciated.

Till Next Time
