“Discover my current favourites – from delicious eats and places visited; to must-see entertainment – in my monthly roundup.”
It’s funny how we can easily take for granted the simplest moments of joy, like those first two sips of tea or coffee in the morning, a warm shower with our favoured scented body wash and freshly clean clothes to wear for the day it somehow gets lost in the murky waters of mundane routines, on top of dealing with our own personal battles; nonetheless, I am grateful for it all, especially after my recent trip with an old friend, I feel rejuvenated, and, it was a clear reminder to me that I need more of that in my life.
What have you done for yourself this month?
As part of my getting back into the writing blogosphere, I know this was always an appreciated type of blog post, my Monthly Round-Ups, and one I hope to continue sharing as the months go on.
Without further ado, my June Round-Up!
Travel
Still fresh in my mind, this is the recent trip I was speaking of, Singapore, where I got to tag along with a good friend of mine who was visiting there for the first time, which meant I got to do all the fun touristy stuff and even managed to see parts of Singapore I had never been to previously.
I will expand further on this getaway in a dedicated post coming up next, as there were a few firsts on this trip, like taking the bus from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, which, by the way, I highly recommend, so if you are interested, keep an eye out for that.
Arts & Culture
Another first from Singapore was catching the Frida Kahlo – The Life of An Icon exhibition. I know it has become a thing, but I do enjoy immersive exhibitions, particularly this one with all the vibrant colours and the way her life story is conveyed throughout each room; we thoroughly enjoyed this exhibit, and It was just fascinating to learn more about her, her life from a young age to adulthood, although her life was filled with tragedy and pain, her resilience and the beauty she created from that is what transcends.
“Step into the world of Frida Kahlo, where her life unfolds in an immersive biography like no other. Discover the many faces of Frida Kahlo through photographs, films, interactive installations, 360-degree projections, creative visitor activation spaces and a virtual reality experience. Prepare to be captivated by the incredible story behind this famous icon.”
The exhibition is on now until 01st September 2024
Location: ArtScience Museum, Singapore

For the Foodies
Baba Low’s
Not a newbie for me on the foodie scene, a rediscovery ‘shall I say’, Baba Low’s has swiftly become both hubby and my regular lunch spot.
It serves up authentic Melaka Peranakan food, a simple menu with delicious and affordable dishes, in a restaurant reminiscent of days gone by.

Lex’s Patio Pantry
Guys, we have a NEW coffee spot in Bangsar!
A deli-inspired mini grocery store serving hot food and drinks just off Jalan Ara in Bangsar, set in a residential area with a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy a cup or dish of something and a dog-friendly space.
We enjoy the food there, the owner and her staff are lovely, and the coffee is good; the only downside, I would say, is there is not much room for parking; therefore, do keep that in mind.

Beauty & Hair
Okay, so picture me with my curly 3c hair, trying a Korean Head Spa for the first time in Singapore and at a place where they have never, I mean NEVER, worked with my hair texture or close to it; yep.
My honest feedback from the experience is that it was relaxing, and the Korean stylist was professional all throughout as were the other ladies who worked in the salon, my scalp did feel clean and nourished after, but sadly when it came to the end of the treatment, the stylist could only partially dry my hair (at my request) as she did not have the experience to style my hair type.
It was nice to have a little treat like that, in hindsight do I think it was worth the money and time, No, not for me anyway.
We went to Bada Hair

Nails done did; I was V Happy with the outcome of this Nail colour and how long it lasted; please don’t ask me the nail colour as per usual; I forgot to take note, bad blogger!
I have been to this salon before, but this was the first time at their branch in Mid Valley Mall, and the nail tech there was 10/10.

Fashion Fave
A brand which needs to be added to my Shop Local Edit series. I have had my eye on this local brand for a while, and to my delight, a friend gifted me a pair of these beautiful statement earrings from that very brand. Oh Dayang.
I adore them and have worn them on a number of occasions; Eid open houses, a night out and even to the supermarket! They brighten up an outfit and are a great talking piece, PLUS the metal studs are made from sterling silver, which means no skin irritation for me; I mean, what else to say?!
What I’ve Watched
As someone who frequently went to the cinema, that slowed right down after the pandemic and only recently have we made a few trips there, and the experience is, of course, so much better than watching it in your living room, unless you have a cinema room at home, then…
I can quite confidently say this movie was not the best I have seen this year, though, for many reasons, it stands out to me, nostalgia being one; I still remember when I watched the first Bad Boys, In this weird kinda way I’ve grown up with these characters, it’s familiar, it’s comforting, you know what to expect, so seeing them reunite for another sequel I didn’t even need to see the trailer we just booked the seats and went.
Podcast
I have watched a couple of episodes from Caroline Hirons new podcast show ‘Glad We Had This Chat with Caroline Hirons’, on YouTube.
For anyone who may not have heard of Caroline Hirons: in brief, she is highly regarded in the skincare realm, having decades of experience from starting off on the shop floor and then running a successful blog, filming on YouTube and now having her own skincare brand.
From what I gather, the premise of her podcast is to invite guests and discuss their careers, life experiences and skincare routine. She has had some interesting people on there; I have linked two episodes below, with whom I appreciated their wisdom and unapologetic selves.
Stacey Solomon: Careers, Family and Managing Social Media
Denise Welch: Loose Women, Life on Stage and Surviving Depression
What’s up on Socials
I touched on this in my previous post; my socials have taken a backseat; I had run out of content steam and haven’t felt inspired or motivated to pick that back up. However, there is one thing I completely forgot to share in the “Where have I been?” post; I had started selling some of my wardrobe and other bits on Carousell. I never knew what a rush I would get from making sales online!
Sadly, the platform I use to sell my items is only available in Malaysia.

Spotlight
One word Nemahsis
How has this young woman gone under the radar? I appreciate how many heavily underrated artists there are; she is undoubtedly one of them.
The three tracks I have listened to are stunning, and I hate to compare; she gives off a little Alanis Morissette vibes, which could be why I am also so drawn to her music.
She describes her music style as indie pop, alternative and folk.
The vocals, the melody, the lyrics, the visuals; she is an ARTIST.
And that is my June Round-up!
Let me know if there is anything in this post you would like me to further elaborate on; I will start writing a post on my Singapore trip, and maybe there is something you would like me to cover on that.
Till Next Time
