I wanted to share with you today that I created this website not only to be a destination for discovering all things beauty, fashion, and travel adventures. It also serves as a space for sharing thoughts and reflecting on the here and now.
What has been a constant on my mind….
Like much of my recent writing, it never gets past the draft stage until one fine evening, I revisit it. I started writing this post on Day 50 of the destruction of Gaza and its people, the Palestinian people. It has been over a year, although we all know it has been going on considerably longer.
Can we honestly go back to what was?
There is not one word which could describe the sensations of helplessness, anger, frustration and despair from repeatedly seeing the brutality inflicted on the Palestinian people, from the bombing of homes, hospitals, schools, places of worship, and even refugee camps to watching mothers and fathers holding on to the lifeless bodies of their children giving them one last warm hug, men, women and children calling out to their families in the rubble whilst wading through the collapsed buildings which were once their homes, turning every slab over with their bare hands in the hopes they will hear even a whisper.
Do they deserve this?
And when you believe things can’t get any worse, they do! The images which continue to come out of Gaza will be forever etched in my mind; we are literally bearing witness to genocide from our phones whilst our leaders and mainstream media sit around and debate away the deepest, darkest levels of cruelty, and that has to be the biggest mind f**k of all.
No wonder we are all exhausted from the rollercoaster ride of emotions.
How and when will this nightmare end?
This is not normal.
What the Palestinian people are experiencing is far from normal.
Thank goodness for the artists, poets, writers, activists, and compassionate individuals who continue to advocate, fundraise, boycott, and protest. Without the brave and selfless Palestinians who report and share their most vulnerable moments, we would struggle to even understand the situation on the ground in Gaza.
From Artists & Poets
The Palestinian journey to liberation has revealed not only the hypocrisies and imbalances of this world but also the significance of storytelling—telling our own stories in our own words.
“Palestine is a moral litmus test” – Angela Davis
As I reflect on the past year, there is a deep sadness that many of us can relate to. Even when I feel powerless, I’ve come to understand that our contributions, no matter how small, hold significant value, especially when they come from a real place.
